Students’ conduct and dress should contribute to the positive, professional image of FCCLA. Jeans and t-shirts are not appropriate dress for these trainings. Your FCCLA uniform should be worn to all sessions. The following conduct code applies to all participants: - Behavior at all times should be such that it reflects credit to you, your school, state, and FCCLA.
- Student conduct is the responsibility of the responsible chaperone. Students shall keep their chaperone informed of their activities and whereabouts at all times.
- Students are to attend all sessions and activities.
- Any accidents, injuries, or illnesses should be reported to their chaperone immediately.
- If a student is found responsible for stealing or vandalism, the student and his/her parents will be expected to pay all damages.
- Students attending the USA Leadership Training may not purchase, possess, consume, or be under the influence of alcohol or drugs at any time. Violators will be subject to stringent disciplinary action.
- Smoking is not allowed.
- Students who disregard the rules will be subject to disciplinary action and may be sent home at their own expense. Parents/guardians will be notified.
CurfewThere is an 11:30 p.m. in-room and quiet curfew for all students each night. This curfew should be enforced by the advisers and will be strictly enforced by hotel security. Safety Tips- Name badges must be worn when attending sessions. The badge shows you are part of the meeting and admits you to sessions and activities. Remove name badges when outside the hotel.
- Never travel alone. You should be accompanied by an adult when outside the hotel. Use good judgment when talking to people not connected with FCCLA.
- Never give out your room number to anyone you don't know.
- Lock and bolt your hotel room door; only open it when you know who is on the other side. All hotel personnel wear uniforms and have an identification badge. If in doubt, call the hotel security to come and verify the employee's identity.
- Valuables, airline tickets, and money should be kept in a hotel safety deposit box or the in room safe.
- Note the fire escape exits on your floor. As an added precaution, count the number of doors from your room to the nearest exit in case smoke-filled hallways block your vision.
Additional Tips- Use pay phones or cell phones for placing long-distance and local calls.
- Don’t forget to leave a tip for good service in restaurants that provide full service. A 15% gratuity is customary.
- Pay room service expenses directly with cash.
- Be considerate of sleeping hours and privacy of other hotel guests and FCCLA members.
- Delegates must be in their rooms and quiet by 11:30 pm
- Check your room carefully before departure. Be sure all personal items have been removed.
Adviser/Chaperone Information & GuidelinesAll students are to be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Advisers are responsible for the behavior and discipline of their students throughout the meeting. Students causing a disturbance or displaying inappropriate behavior will be asked to leave the meeting and the hotel at their own expense. Advisers/Chaperones Role(s)- While at the meeting, the state’s appointed chaperone is responsible for the behavior of the students from their state.
- Check with school administrators prior to the meeting to discuss school policy on disciplinary action.
- Review the Meeting Information with your students prior to arrival, stressing the section on Delegate Guidelines and Safety Tips.
- T-shirts and jeans are not appropriate dress for these trainings. Advisers are asked to help enforce this policy.
- Participants who attend trainings, dressed inappropriately will be asked to return to their room and change to acceptable attire.
- Officers are encouraged to wear the official red jacket and uniform for all trainings and Capitol Hill visits. Sunday and Tuesday evenings will be casual. Khaki’s, Capri’s, or cropped length pants are acceptable casual wear, jeans or t-shirts are not acceptable.
- Monitor the behavior of your students throughout the meeting.
- Make sure your students attend all sessions and stay until the end of each session.
- Remind students that it is impolite to walk out during a speaker’s presentation.
- Enforce the 11:30 p.m. in-room curfew and quiet time each night.
- Remind your students that there are other guests staying at the hotel and to be considerate of their need for quiet and sleep.
- Students should observe common elevator courtesy, avoid congregating in the hallways and other public areas during evening hours, and keep the doors to their sleeping rooms closed at all times.
- Know where your students are at all times. Do not let them walk out of the hotel without your permission. When walking outside the hotel, students, and adults should be in groups of at least two or more.
- Encourage your students to make the most of this training by actively participating in the sessions. Opportunities are just waiting for each member that chooses to take part.
- Set a positive example for your students; you can and do make a lasting impression on them.
- Encourage your students to be actively involved in the meeting. Make it a memorable and worthwhile experience for you and for them.
****It is critical that advisers/chaperones do not tolerate inappropriate behavior by their students. Any member displaying inappropriate behavior that disturbs or poses a threat to others will be removed from the hotel and/or the meeting at their own expense. ****Adults should collect cell phone numbers of students they are chaperoning in case of an emergency!
