Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: How do I affiliate my chapter?A: You can affiliate on line at www.fcclainc.org or send a national affiliation form and dues payment to the address listed on your affiliation form. Q: What do national dues support?A: Payment of national dues makes the organization possible. National dues support Teen Times, chapter mailings, national programs, chapter resources, training, promotion, processing fees, membership cards, national officer’s efforts, membership promotion, National Board of Director’s activities, expenses related to raising money, and operating expenses of the national headquarters and staff. Q: What are the qualifications for being an FCCLA member?A: Any student who is taking or has taken a course in Family and Consumer Sciences and/or related occupations through grade 12 is eligible for membership in an organized chapter within the school. Q: Who can be an FCCLA adviser?A: Any teacher certified in Family and Consumer Sciences education and/or related occupations may serve as a chapter adviser. Q: How do I introduce new members to FCCLA?A: Try the Step One activity, available on the Be Part of It! CD. The Essential Guide for FCCLA in the Classroom includes lesson plans for introducing and starting an in-class chapter. Q: What’s the difference between comprehensive and occupational members?A: Comprehensive members emphasize a variety of Family and Consumer Sciences education programs of study. Occupational members are enrolled in educational programs that prepare them for paid employment in a specific Family and Consumer Sciences related career. Q: What’s a chapter ID number and where do I find it?A: Unless you are a new chapter, your chapter ID number can be found on all correspondences mailed to you from the national headquarters which include Teen Times and The Adviser. Q: I am trying to start a new chapter, how do I get an ID number?A: Once you have completed the affiliation form online, or have sent it through the mail, a chapter ID number will be assigned to your chapter. To start the affiliation process online, a chapter ID number is not needed if you are new. Q: Do I need to provide a roster of all the students affiliated with my FCCLA chapter?A: Yes! Please provide a list of students that will be affiliated with your chapter and make note as to if they are male or female; occupational or comprehensive. This is very important when verifying membership for competitive events, state and national officer elections and/or eligibility for scholarships. Q: Can I affiliate my second term students?A: Yes! Affiliations are accepted until May 31! However, if members wish to compete in STAR Events the national deadline for affiliation is March 1. Deadlines at the state level may vary. Check with your state adviser. Q: What type of dues payment is accepted?A: For both online and mail-in affiliation, you may pay dues using a purchase order, a credit card, or a check. Q: Can you provide me a copy of my affiliation?A: Before sending your affiliation to the national headquarters, please make a copy of your affiliation form and student roster for your records. |
